YouTube Europe Trip Girlfriend E-mail Video: Real or Not?
This video has been passed all around the InterTubes, with people commenting on it everywhere. (Don’t skip those links: they’re funny as hell, for different reasons.) The basic plot line:
- Guy tells girlfriend he’s going to Europe for 2 weeks.
- Guy goes to Europe, completely unplugs.
- Girlfriend forgets, goes mental.
- Hilarity ensues. Or sadness. I’m not sure which.
That’s pretty much it. Here’s the full version which says the above but with many more words, and dubious choice of soundtrack:
The greatest question here is: real or fake? Would a guy and a girl who were in a committed relationship have such pitifully little communication where not only does something this huge get forgotten, but the girlfriend also has no ability to speak to friends/relatives to get the scoop?
And since when does no contact automatically mean breaking up? Whatever happened to the thought that if you haven’t called or returned calls or e-mails, you might be in the hospital or dead?
This just doesn’t pass the “smell test” for me. Too many convenient excuses (e.g., mom apparently neither has caller ID nor *69) to keep the “plot” moving. And then in the info box, there’s this:
Inspired by truth, written for fun
Personally, I would have kicked this girl to the curb by the third e-mail — any woman who feels the need to let me know that she’s being hit on whenever I’m not around isn’t going to get far with me. It’s not cute, it’s drama-queeny.
And I hope you guys have better self-esteem than to get hooked up with someone like the girl in this video. If she exists.
