It all started when another Drew, Drew Olanoff of #blamedrewscancer fame decided to auction off his Twitter username (@drew), with the proceeds going to Livestrong. On October 3, Carey, one of the most famous Drews in America (after Drew Barrymore, of course), bid $25,000 for the handle. But then he went one better: he would also donate $100,000 if he reached 100,000 followers by November 9. In just a few days days he gained about 40,000 followers, so he quickly set his sights higher:
Not only is Drew Carey the man who replaced Bob Barker as The Price is Right host, more importantly he’s a co-owner of the Seattle Sounders FC, and no matter what Jim Rome says, soccer is an exciting sport. (Actually, the fact that Jim Rome hates it should tell you there must be something good about it, but I digress.)
