Movember Postscript

Movember 30I couldn’t let Movember pass without letting you see the finished product. If I hide the soul patch there’s a little Ron Burgundy in my look, I must say.

It’s been a fun month, and although I didn’t push too hard on the fundraising aspect (ahem, it’s not too late!), I think my facial-hair-sporting brethren and I have certainly helped raise awareness of prostate and testicular cancer. (The Movember Foundation partners with the Prostate Cancer Foundation and Lance Armstrong Foundation. Even Lance himself has been growing a “mo.”)

Remember that although 27,000 men will die from prostate cancer in the US this year alone, it’s 90% curable if detected and treated early. Screening for these cancers should be a part of every man’s regular check-up, especially those over 40.

In many cities, Movember will be wrapping up this weekend with Gala Partés where you can dress in the “character” of your mustache and celebrate a job well done. As for me, I’ll probably be relieving myself of my upper lip fur soon, and I already have a plan for next year’s event. I’m not going to give it away, but make sure that come next November 1, your typing fingers are limber and ready!

Finally, another reminder to help donate money to LIVESTRONG without having to open your wallet: follow Drew Carey (@DrewFromTV) on Twitter before the end of the year and he’ll add $1 to his donation, up to $1 million.
