Ultimate Spring Cleaning is a project to clean and declutter not only your house, but your life. Each day you’ll get a housecleaning assignment, an assignment that involves the world around you, and a project to clear your mind. You can start anytime at the Ultimate Spring Cleaning main page.
A quick note: the original 2010 Ultimate Spring Cleaning program started on the first Monday after the Spring Equinox, placing Day 14 on Easter Sunday. That’s why this is a very light day. We’re also almost halfway through this 30-day project, and if you’ve come this far you should take a moment to congratulate yourself. If you’d prefer to work ahead and take the break next Sunday for Easter 2011, feel free to do so.
That’s not to say there’s nothing to be done, but if you want to or have to take a “free day” today it won’t put you behind.
Your Home: Finish Cleaning the Living Area
In the event that you’ve already been working fastidiously on this, you may be done, in which case pour yourself a nice glass of sparkling water with lemon or lime (only three more days ’til you get booze again!) and congratulate yourself.
If you have an extra room, like a den, consider cleaning that today. Since most of us have some kind of home office space, we’ll take that on a few days from now. Just finish up and remember to be ruthless about getting rid of everything that isn’t important to your life. Also, keep looking at ways you can improve your home.
Your World: Phone a Friend
That’s it. Call someone, whether it’s a friend, a family member or maybe even that girl you met when you were out yesterday. Call to catch up, or to check on them if they’ve been sick, or ask them to Sunday brunch (your treat—yes, I am very generous with your money).
Make human contact with someone you know and maybe haven’t spoken to in a while. Some of us aren’t very good at reaching out and touching someone, but today that changes.
Oh, just in case you’re looking for a loophole: no e-mail, no text, no IM. Only a voice phone call counts.
Yourself: Relax
It’s the end of your second week of Ultimate Spring Cleaning. To come this far means you’ve already done a lot, even if you’re working on only one of the three disciplines. So after you’ve finished your activities above, do whatever relaxes you. A long, hot shower or loafing on the sofa. A drive in the country or sitting on the grass in the park. Paint. Watch your goldfish swim. Then meditate and get a full night’s rest…
…Because you’ll be hitting it hard again tomorrow.
